MATCHING YOUR PERSONALITY TO YOUR WEB SITE

Here is your first assignment in developing your own web site.  Take time with each of these steps - expect to put in three to four hours over the next couple of weeks.

Step 1.

Draft your mission.  Start with the two sentences to describe yourself and then identify your business purpose.

Step 2.

Clearly identify the customers and clients with whom you want to work.  What clients do you want to attract?   What services might they need that you can meet?  To help you with this you may want to download the Practice Design Worksheet.

(Right click on the blue underlined text in this paragraph and select "save link as".  You will get a new box that will ask you what file folder you would like to save the file into.  If you aren't sure, just put it onto your desktop for now by clicking on the little down arrow beside to the right of the "save in" and look for desktop.  Click on it when you find it.  Then click on the Save box.)

The document that you have downloaded is in rich text and you should be able to open it in any word processing package.  Double click on Values Table on your Desktop and it should open.  If it doesn't, then open the software (e.g. open Word 97) and then open the file from within the software.  Look for the file on the Desktop.

Step 3.

Clarify your core values and the values you want to present to the world.  Narrow it down to four or five that you want reflected in your Web design.

Step 4.

This will be our future work – applying these personality values to your Web design.

When you have a list of your key values, you will need to complete the Web Values Table in a rich text document. which can be downloaded.  See instructions above.

You are to pick the top three or four values that you want to be sure are represented on your web site.  Write then across the top of the Table.  The first column lists another of important elements in the design of a web site.  It is your task to think of each item and them identify how it could be best reflected for each one or your values.

When you have filled in the table, resave it and attach it to an e-mail to me for our next session.
