"TAGS"

Once we get the layout determine and the basic content, you will have to come up with some key words to "hide" in the code.  This exercise will probably begin in month two of the program.

There are actually 20 different places that keywords can and should be placed on a web page. Some of these words are in the HTML code and can not be seen on the actual page.  If you don't know the keyword placement techniques, you have virtually no chance to be found by a search engine.  Don't worry, once you determine what these words are, I will make sure to have them added in the right places.

Step 1.

We need to come up with some "tags" that search
engines will use when "crawling" through your site.

meta name="keywords"
List all the words or couple of words in lower case and put commas after each one. Use as many as possible to describe aspects of what you do.

meta name="description"
Think of a sentence (doesn't have to have perfect grammar) of about 120 characters to describe your services briefly and to the point.

Step 2.

  • Do you have your own "tag line"?
  • What is it that you do?
  • What are the benefits of working with you versus the features?

Don't just stop and answering these questions yourself.  Talk to as many others as possible and ask them:

  • "What is it that I offer?"

You may be surprised at the answers.  Keep a notebook to record the responses that you get.  You might also try this question:

  • "Why would someone chose me?"
