The Accelerated Learning Handbook

The Accelerated Learning Handbook
by Dave Meier, McGraw-Hill, 2000 ISBN: 0071355472

What is it these days with the proliferation of books that insist on having the work Handbook as part of the title.  Does it sound more practical or meaty?  To me a handbook is a great reference document with exercises and specific plans.  Now, the Fifth Discipline Fieldbook - that is a handbook and a half.  Sure, this book had a lot but honestly, it only took me an hour to read and get everything that I needed.

Author Dave Meier is the president of the Center for Accelerated Learning, and is the leading guru of accelerated learning in the world, holding seminars for thousands of trainers, course designers, and consultants around North America.  This guy has a lot of experience and knowledge.  I got quite a few ideas and practical times for a project of mine.  However I guess that I am beginning to resent the cost of these books.  Am I the only one that thinks the price is just too high?  There was a time when I waited for the book to come out in paperback.  If it didn't then I tended to assume that it wasn't that good after all.  Now, I tend to search the Internet for the information.

Here is my caveat.  If you have a long of experience in organizational design, review, or the learning organization, you probably won't find too much that is new.  Sure Meier avoids the theory that some of us hate.  (Not me, I love the stuff.)  This is a beginner or middle level handbook and not something that the expert level will find particularly enlightening.
